Gary Shepherd, LLM, MSW, Grad. Dip. FDR, Notary Public, Dip. Counselling, is a Solicitor, Social Worker, Counsellor, and Nationally Accredited Mediator, and holds Masters Degrees in both Law [QUT] and Social Work [Monash University].

Gary has been a continuous member of the Queensland Law Society since 1980, and is registered with the Federal Attorney-General’s Department as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. As such, he is able to issue Section 60 I Certificates, pursuant to the provisions of the Family Law Act 1975 [as amended] in relation to children’s matters.

Gary was in private practice as a solicitor, for over twenty-five years, predominantly in the areas of family law and civil litigation, before leaving general practice to focus on alternative dispute resolution [mediation], as a means of assisting people to resolve their differences themselves, without the expense and anguish associated with litigation.

Gary has practiced as a mediator since 1995 and has facilitated [at the time of writing] in excess of 4000 mediations [again, predominantly in respect of family law matters].

 Since 2005 Gary has also been engaged as a Social Assessment Report Writer in respect of Children’s Court matters, and, on a private basis, as a Family Report Writer in children’s matters within the Family Court jurisdiction. He continues to be available for mediation in all areas, and particularly, Family Law, Commercial and Industrial Law [he was engaged as a lecturer in Industrial Relations Law by the Australian Catholic University in the mid-1990’s], and Media and Entertainment Law. Gary is willing to travel, as needed, to accommodate the needs of his clients, for mediation purposes.

Gary also remains available to write family reports and social assessment reports.
